One for the Money

24 Jan

One for the money… If this conjures up a title of a mystery, rather than the beginning line of a rather mundane poem, you are in for a treat! Katherine Heigl will play Janet Evanovich’s zany lingerie-buyer turned bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. The film will open January 27.

Jason O’Mara will be playing the object of Stephanie’s hunt, Joe Morelli, and fellow Grey’s Anatomy co-star Daniel Sunjata will play Ranger. Everyone’s favorite literary Grandmother, Grandma Mazur, will be played by Debbie Reynolds. If this goes well there will be lots of possibilities for more – Evanovich is already at Explosive Eighteen.

If you’re looking for a more serious small screen mystery experience, keep an eye out for Craig Johnson’s books turned into a TV series by the A&E Channel under the name Longmire. Several episodes have been filmed about Walt Longmire, the dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming. Widowed only a year, he is a man in psychic repair but who buries his pain behind his brave face, unassuming grin, and dry wit. The cast is younger than one would expect, considering the ages of the characters in the books, but author Johnson says that the TV people told him it was because, if the show’s a hit, they want to give the characters a chance to age (so that Vic won’t end up doing all the work because the guys are too old!).  Longmire will be played by Robert Taylor (who starred in The Matrix); with Lou Diamond Phillips as Henry Standing Bear; Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica and 24) as Victoria Moretti; and Cassidy Freeman (Smallville) as Cady Longmire, Walt’s daughter. The pilot will air in August 2012.
